At Interpack 2011 ROFIN-BAASEL Lasertech presents a comprehensive but straightforward new product line-up. The StarPack series comprises solutions for every kind of laser application in the packaging industry. Whether it‘s cross web / free form scribing, web direction scribing / perforation or both, with StarPack CW, StarPack WD, StarPack AP and StarPack Pouch – there is always an optimized set-up.

Laser - key technology for added packaging functionality

Intelligent packing, which offers convincing benefits in terms of convenience and product quality, will play an ever increasing role in consumer product marketing. Lasers are the key technology for most demanded additional functionality, like Easy Opening or Controlled Atmosphere Packaging. The innovative converter knows, that modern packaging is almost inconceivable without laser scribing and laser perforating.

ROFIN offers In-depth converting know how

ROFIN, with many of the major packaging converters among its world-wide customers, individually configures every system out of the StarPack system modules to fulfill the customer‘s specific requirements. Over years of close cooperation with these converting companies, Rofin gained a lot of experience and know how through many application trials and product co- developments with its customers. As a world leading laser manufacturer,
ROFIN has the capability to drive developments towards the benefit of the flexible packaging companies. One of these innovative developments is a CO2 Laser with a shorter wave length. Tremendous better absorption of common polymers can be achieved by changing the industrial standard wave length of a CO2 laser from 10,60 ?m to 10,25 ?m. The result is a smoother easy tear line at faster line speed. The same goes for a perforation process.

Optimized wavelengths and high-end scanners

As ROFIN‘s CO2 business unit is always at the cutting-edge of laser technology in flexible packaging, it co-developed as well a new 3-axis scanner which offers an impressive working area of up to 1,250 x 1,250 mm2 while maintaining small spot sizes. This new technology is used in the StarPack HP and combines the laser beam subsystem (scanner), with the industrial approved Rofin DC025 CO2 laser with 2500 W laser power. This latest model of the StarPack family is used to cut card boards, hard and rigid packaging such as polystyrol or PET food trays.
ROFIN develops laser solutions for the packaging industry using their in-house winding system and lab equipment. The application lab in Starnberg is open for free of charge trials to evaluate customer samples at any time.
